Every day, our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, clinicians, staff, and volunteers demonstrate what it means to serve with excellence. Through every patient encounter, every innovation, and every act of kindness, they embody our shared commitment to delivering exceptional care and improving the health and well-being of the communities we are privileged to serve.

In a year marked by both opportunity and challenge, our team remained steadfast—leading with integrity, embracing change, and continuing to earn the trust of our patients and community. Their resilience, professionalism, and dedication reflect the strength of an organization united by purpose and inspired by the belief that every person deserves outstanding care close to home.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to our patients, donors, supporters, and community partners. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you for your continued support of South County Health and our mission to be “Rhode Island’s Most Trusted Health Partner.”

Despite an increasingly challenging healthcare environment, South County Health continues to grow in ways that directly benefit the people and communities we are privileged to serve. Over the past year, we have added providers, expanded services, and increased access to high-quality care across southern and central Rhode Island.

Our growth is reflected in the more than 2,000 new oncology patients, 3,000 new urology patients, 4,000 new OB/GYN patients, and 6,000 new primary care patients we welcomed over the past year. We have also expanded our outpatient services in East Greenwich, Newport, Warwick, and Westerly, bringing more care closer to where our patients live and work.

These are more than numbers and new locations. They represent greater access to care for our neighbors, our families, and the communities we have served for generations.

As a locally governed health system, we have the ability to respond directly to the needs of our community and keep those needs at the center of our decisions. Preserving that independence remains fundamental to who we are.

At the same time, we recognize that the future of healthcare requires new capabilities and new ways of working. Technology is transforming healthcare, and independent community health systems face growing challenges in developing the capital, infrastructure, technology, and operational scale needed to keep pace.

After more than two decades of considering potential partnerships, over the next few months, we will be publicly announcing some exciting new agreements. These will give South County Health access to leading technology, including a modern electronic health record system, artificial intelligence, and world-class clinical expertise, including a clinical collaboration that will bring expertise from the world’s #1 hospital to Rhode Island.

Importantly, South County Health will remain independently owned and locally governed. Our commitment to personalized, community-based care—and to keeping our patients and community at the center of our decisions—remains unchanged.

This progress is the result of the dedication of our physicians, nurses, clinicians, staff, leadership team, volunteers, and Board of Trustees. We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to invest their talent and energy in our mission.

We are proud of what we have accomplished together, and we are equally excited about what lies ahead.

Together, we are building a stronger, more innovative, and sustainable South County Health—one that will continue to provide exceptional care to our community for generations to come.

South County Health is nationally recognized for delivering exceptional quality, safety, and patient-centered care. South County Hospital is the only hospital in the Northeast and one of just 19 hospitals nationwide to have earned 5-Star Ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for both Overall Hospital Quality and Patient Experience. Today, South County Hospital holds a 4-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating from CMS—the highest rating achieved by any hospital in Rhode Island—and has also earned a 5-Star Rating for Home Health Patient Experience. In addition, South County Hospital has ranked among the top 7% of hospitals nationally for patient experience based on HCAHPS survey results.

Our commitment to excellence has also earned 11 Leapfrog “A” Hospital Safety Grades since 2018, the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, and 5-Star ratings for both Vaginal and Cesarean Delivery, along with nationally recognized accreditations in stroke care, orthopedics, and patient safety. South County Health is committed to supporting growing families with expert guidance and compassionate care. Through a series of free educational programs, we empower parents with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate pregnancy, childbirth, and the early days of parenthood.

Our Breastfeeding Success class provides essential tips and techniques to help parents establish and maintain successful breastfeeding. Led by lactation experts, this session covers proper latch, feeding positions, and common challenges, ensuring families feel supported from the start.

Preparing for Birth is a comprehensive class that walks expectant parents through labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery. With insights from experienced healthcare professionals, attendees learn about pain management options, the role of a birth partner, and what to expect in the hospital.

New parents can also find a welcoming community in our New Parent Support Group. This group provides a space to connect with other families, ask questions, and receive guidance from healthcare professionals on feeding, sleep, and newborn care.

At South County Health, we believe that informed parents are empowered parents. These free offerings are just one way we’re here to support families every step of the way.
